Easter Part 2

So this is my first Easter in the States in over 3 years and to be honest, it never really felt like how I remember Easter feeling. My siblings and I are older now and so we don't do any of the traditional things we used to (no Easter egg hunt) and all the family isn't together. My brother lives in another state, my sister had to work and the most important person, Weronika, is in Poland. This day would feel so much more special if it was shared with her but with that being said, I did have a good time. I went to my dad's and spent it with my other brother and my step-siblings. We ate some food, played some games, and watched TV.

My brother, my dad's dog and I hanging out and watching some March Madness.

Us playing some Settler of Catan. I won, of course.

Dinner was followed up with some delicious French Silk pie and chocolate Snickers cheesecake

Just some of the family hanging out.

Easter part 1

This year Easter has been crazy in Poland because of all the snow and coldness. I don’t really remember celebrating a wintery Easter (to be honest, I don’t recall a wintery Christmas, either). But also, it has been different because of my localization: it’s the first Easter spent in the new house and new town. It was less Christian (since the blessing was super early at the local church and only my dad went with a basket) and the same amount of quality time spent with my family. Unfortunately, I haven't spent these days with everyone I wanted to. Andrew hasn't been here to celebrate and get to know the Wosiek's Easter traditions with us. I bet he would like it because of the food, no allergies and spending time with my family. Hopefully next year (doesn't matter where) we will spend Easter together, sharing traditions from the two best continents.

The earlier mentioned basket. Every item in it symbolizes something and is rather important. For example, eggs symbolize new life, horseradish- physical strength and meat is there for well-being.

The cake my mom and I baked is called Mazurek and it's a traditional Easter cake here. Came out pretty good (made me proud of myself, for sure).

Part of my family. Btw it's not a dinner. It's a breakfast, at 10 o'clock. With a soup, kielbasas and stuff (the stuff= things from the basket).

It's not what Easter usually looks like in Poland! I always imagine having green and flowery Easter but this year has been kind of.... original, white and non-flowery! Hopefully it gets warmer soon!

Back to the Beginning

Date: November 8, 2011. Location: Poorly lit pub in Poland (I don't remember how to spell the name and I don't even want to try). It's a meeting of mostly Polish and international students (neither of which I was) who are looking for help learning a foreign language. I came looking for a native German speaker to have conversations in German with and she came looking for someone to teach her Turkish. What we ended up finding was something much better. Love. Now here we are over one year later, starting a blog together, and the only thing that could make me happier would be waking up next to her every day.

First Day of Spring

So yesterday was the first day of Spring and we decided to send each other pictures of the view from our respective homes and here is the result:

Can you guess which one is Poland? If you guessed the sunny picture you're...wrong. The ironic thing is that I think we would prefer each other's. I know she would definitely prefer to be taking part in the warm, sunny California Spring and don't get me wrong, I like it as well. I just hate what it brings with it. Allergies. Honestly though, I would take either one, as long as we were together. Plus snow and allergies are both valid excuses for staying inside and snuggling in front of a movie.
